Although indigenous communities may benefit from and adapt to the wage labour and training opportunities provided by new mining operations, they are also often left to navigate the complicated process of remediating the long-term ecological changes associated with industrial mining. In this regard, the mining often inscribes colonialism as a broad set of physical and ecological changes to indigenous lands. This collection examines historical and contemporary social, economic, and environmental impacts of mining on Aboriginal communities in northern Canada. Combining oral history research with intensive archival study, this work juxtaposes the perspectives of government and industry with those of local communities. The oral history and ethnographic material provides an extremely significant record of local Aboriginal perspectives on histories of mining and development in their regions."--$$cProvided by publisher. 000936868 650_0 $$aMineral industries$$zCanada, Northern$$xHistory. 000936868 650_0 $$aMineral industries$$xPolitical aspects$$zCanada, Northern. 000936868 650_0 $$aMineral industries$$xSocial aspects$$zCanada, Northern. 000936868 650_0 $$aMineral industries$$xEnvironmental aspects$$zCanada, Northern. 000936868 650_0 $$aMineral industries$$xEconomic aspects$$zCanada, Northern. 000936868 650_5 $$aNative peoples$$zCanada, Northern$$xHistory. 000936868 650_0 $$aOral history$$zCanada, Northern. 000936868 7001_ $$aKeeling, Arn,$$eauthor,$$eeditor. 000936868 7001_ $$aSandlos, John,$$d1970-$$eauthor,$$eeditor. 000936868 7102_ $$aCanadian Electronic Library (Firm),$$edistributor. 000936868 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z1552388042$$z9781552388044 000936868 830_0 $$aCanadian history and environment series,$$x1925-3702 ;$$v3. 000936868 830_0 $$aCanadian Electronic Library.$$pCanadian publishers collection. 000936868 85280 $$bebk$$hProQuest Ebook Central Academic Complete 000936868 85640 $$3ProQuest Ebook Central Academic Complete$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://ebookcentral.proquest.com/lib/usiricelib-ebooks/detail.action?docID=4384386$$zOnline Access 000936868 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:936868$$pGLOBAL_SET 000936868 980__ $$aEBOOK 000936868 980__ $$aBIB 000936868 982__ $$aEbook 000936868 983__ $$aOnline
