This book summarizes presentations and discussions from the two-day international workshop held at UC Berkeley in March 2015, and derives questions to be addressed in multi-disciplinary research toward a new paradigm of nuclear safety. The consequences of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident in March 2011 have fuelled the debate on nuclear safety: while there were no casualties due to radiation, there was substantial damage to local communities. The lack of common understanding of the basics of environmental and radiological sciences has made it difficult for stakeholders to develop effective strategies to accelerate recovery, and this is compounded by a lack of effective decision-making due to the eroded public trust in the government and operators. Recognizing that making a society resilient and achieving higher levels of saf ety relies on public participation in and feedback on decision-making, the book focuses on risk perception and mitigation in its discussion of the development of resilient communities. 000938988 546__ $$aEnglish. 000938988 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (SpringerLink, viewed August 29, 2017). 000938988 650_0 $$aNuclear power plants$$xSafety measures. 000938988 650_0 $$aNuclear power plants$$xAccidents$$xPrevention. 000938988 7001_ $$aAhn, Joonhong,$$eeditor. 000938988 7001_ $$aGuarnieri, Franck,$$eeditor. 000938988 7001_ $$aFuruta, K.$$q(Kazuo),$$eeditor. 000938988 77608 $$iPrint version:$$tResilience.$$dCham, Switzerland : Springer, 2017$$z9783319587677$$z3319587676$$w(OCoLC)982651925 000938988 85280 $$bebk$$hSpringerLink 000938988 85640 $$3SpringerLink$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-319-58768-4$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 000938988 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:938988$$pGLOBAL_SET 000938988 980__ $$aEBOOK 000938988 980__ $$aBIB 000938988 982__ $$aEbook 000938988 983__ $$aOnline 000938988 994__ $$a92$$bISE
