The book analyses the theories and practices of editors who worked on Shakespeare, but also on complete editions of a remarkable range of early modern writers, from the early nineteenth century through to the early twentieth century. It reassesses the point at which purportedly more scientific theories of editing began the process of obscuring the work of these earlier editors. In recreating this largely ignored history, this book also addresses the current interest in the theory and practice of editing as it relates to new approaches to early modern writing, and to literary and book history, and the material conditions of the transmission of texts. Through a series of case studies, the book explores the way individual editors dealt with Renaissance literature and with changing ideas of how texts and their contexts might be represented. 000939861 588__ $$aVendor-supplied metadata. 000939861 650_0 $$aTechnical writing$$y19th century. 000939861 650_0 $$aTechnical writing$$y20th century. 000939861 650_0 $$aEditing$$y19th century. 000939861 650_0 $$aEditing$$y20th century. 000939861 650_0 $$aCanon (Literature) 000939861 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aSalzman, Paul.$$tEditors construct the Renaissance Canon, 1825-1915.$$dCham, Switzerland : Palgrave Macmillan, [2018]$$z331977901X$$z9783319779010$$w(OCoLC)1023525459 000939861 830_0 $$aEarly modern literature in history (Palgrave Macmillan (Firm)) 000939861 852__ $$bebk 000939861 85640 $$3SpringerLink$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-319-77902-7$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 000939861 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:939861$$pGLOBAL_SET 000939861 980__ $$aEBOOK 000939861 980__ $$aBIB 000939861 982__ $$aEbook 000939861 983__ $$aOnline 000939861 994__ $$a92$$bISE
