One dilemma for China?s transnational soft power-field expansion lies in the intersection of its source and receiving countries. The author discusses how transnational audiences? consumption and reception of Chinese television series are shaped by domestic factors, with interpretations of and desires for different forms of capital, further inhibiting the foreign export of these series. Another dilemma is the "outsourced soft power." While Hong Kong and Taiwan play significant roles as outsourced soft power mediators, their under-established emerging digital media platforms have yet to meet the expectations of transnational audiences in a virtual transnational soft power field. Grounded in the author?s multi-site field research focused on television spheres, Soft Power Made in China argues that China?s soft power paradox in South Korea and Japan?two quasi-Sinophone countries?is not due to a lack of state-level strategy, but linked to soft power pathways that rely on production in one source country, and both distribution and reception in a receiving country. 000940127 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (viewed October 2, 2018). 000940127 650_0 $$aMass media and international relations$$zChina. 000940127 650_0 $$aDigital media$$xPolitical aspects$$zChina. 000940127 651_0 $$aChina$$xForeign relations. 000940127 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aLee, Claire Seungeun.$$tSoft power made in China.$$dCham, Switzerland : Palgrave Macmillan, [2018]$$z9783319931142$$w(DLC) 2018950361$$w(OCoLC)1035294381 000940127 852__ $$bebk 000940127 85640 $$3SpringerLink$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-319-93115-9$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 000940127 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:940127$$pGLOBAL_SET 000940127 980__ $$aEBOOK 000940127 980__ $$aBIB 000940127 982__ $$aEbook 000940127 983__ $$aOnline 000940127 994__ $$a92$$bISE
