It shows how a particular type of Byzantine frescoes and icons illustrated the views of Patristic thinkers on the connections between the heavenly and the earthly worlds. The author explores the occurrence, and geographical distribution, of this new type of iconography that manifested itself in representations concerned with the human body, and argues that these were a reaction to docetist ideas. The volume also investigates the diffusion of saints' cults and demonstrates that this took place on a North-South axis as their veneration began in Byzantium and gradually reached the northern part of Europe, and eventually the entirety of Christendom.--$$cProvided by publisher. 000940198 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (viewed October 29, 2018). 000940198 650_0 $$aIcons, Byzantine. 000940198 650_0 $$aChristian literature, Early$$xHistory and criticism. 000940198 650_0 $$aSpirituality in art. 000940198 650_0 $$aSpirituality in literature. 000940198 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z9783319989853 000940198 830_0 $$aNew approaches to Byzantine history and culture. 000940198 852__ $$bebk 000940198 85640 $$3SpringerLink$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-319-98986-0$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 000940198 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:940198$$pGLOBAL_SET 000940198 980__ $$aEBOOK 000940198 980__ $$aBIB 000940198 982__ $$aEbook 000940198 983__ $$aOnline 000940198 994__ $$a92$$bISE
