Exploring how Beckett fabricates encounters with the impossible and the unthinkable in performance, it asks how philosophy can approach what cannot be thought while honouring and preserving its alterity. Employing its method, it creates a series of encounters between aspects of Beckett's theatrical practice and a range of concepts drawn from Deleuze's philosophy. Through the force of these encounters, a new range of concepts is invented. These provide novel ways of thinking affect and the body in performance; the possibility of theatrical automation; and the importance of failure and invention in our attempts to respond to performance encounters. Further, this book includes new approaches to Beckett's later theatrical work and provides an overview of Deleuze's conception of philosophical practice as an ongoing struggle to think with immanence. 000940285 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 000940285 60010 $$aBeckett, Samuel,$$d1906-1989$$xCriticism and interpretation. 000940285 60010 $$aDeleuze, Gilles,$$d1925-1995$$xCriticism and interpretation. 000940285 650_0 $$aActing$$xPhilosophy. 000940285 830_0 $$aPerformance philosophy. 000940285 852__ $$bebk 000940285 85640 $$3SpringerLink$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-319-95618-3$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 000940285 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:940285$$pGLOBAL_SET 000940285 980__ $$aEBOOK 000940285 980__ $$aBIB 000940285 982__ $$aEbook 000940285 983__ $$aOnline 000940285 994__ $$a92$$bISE
