Arguments have been drawn from scripture and also from philosophy and experience, the latter being particularly important at a time when the church can no longer lay down the law, but has to be able to persuade. However, are the arguments used valid, or are they flawed? This is what Gareth Moore considers. His study covers such wide ranging topics as sexual pleasure, the purpose of sex, sexual gestures, marriage, contraception and homosexuality, and in these areas and the more specific sexual issues which he covers, he often finds the church's case defective. Though the church has valuable things to say, its supporting arguments can be unconvincing. Better arguments, he claims, are needed, or alternatively the possibility has to be faced that the church's teaching needs to be modified. 000941757 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 000941757 61020 $$aCatholic Church$$xDoctrines. 000941757 650_0 $$aSex$$xReligious aspects$$xChristianity. 000941757 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aMoore, Gareth.$$tBody in context : sex and Catholicism.$$dLondon : Continuum, 2001$$z9780826485687$$w(OCoLC)ocm45488211$$w(DLC) 2005275538 000941757 830_0 $$aContemporary Christian insights. 000941757 852__ $$bebk 000941757 85640 $$3ProQuest Ebook Central Academic Complete $$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://ebookcentral.proquest.com/lib/usiricelib-ebooks/detail.action?docID=1748798$$zOnline Access 000941757 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:941757$$pGLOBAL_SET 000941757 980__ $$aEBOOK 000941757 980__ $$aBIB 000941757 982__ $$aEbook 000941757 983__ $$aOnline
