The authors exploration of the true costs of academics, living expenses, and student services leads them to conclude that current college policies and practices do not support low-income and otherwise marginalized students well-being or success. To counter this, they suggest that reform efforts should begin by asking value-based questions about the goals of public higher education, and end by crafting class-responsive policies. They propose three tools that policymakers can use to do this work, and steps that every person can take to revitalize public support for public education, equity-producing policies, and democratic participation in the public arena. 000943716 588__ $$aDescription based on online resource; title from digital title page (viewed on September 28, 2020). 000943716 650_0 $$aCollege costs$$zUnited States. 000943716 650_0 $$aLow-income college students$$zUnited States. 000943716 650_0 $$aEducational equalization$$zUnited States. 000943716 7001_ $$aGoerisch, Denise,$$eauthor. 000943716 7001_ $$aKim, Esther C.,$$eauthor. 000943716 7001_ $$aVernon, Franklin,$$eauthor. 000943716 7001_ $$aWolfgram, Matthew,$$eauthor. 000943716 77608 $$iPrint version: $$z3030538605$$z9783030538606$$w(OCoLC)1159045877 000943716 830_0 $$aPalgrave pivot. 000943716 852__ $$bebk 000943716 85640 $$3SpringerLink$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-030-53861-3$$zOnline Access 000943716 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:943716$$pGLOBAL_SET 000943716 980__ $$aEBOOK 000943716 980__ $$aBIB 000943716 982__ $$aEbook 000943716 983__ $$aOnline 000943716 994__ $$a92$$bISE
