Summary Hamlet, Macbeth, and King Lear, three of the most frequently adapted tragedies, have been performed in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and China for over two centuries as political theatre, comedic parody, Chinese opera, and avant-garde theatre. Each of this books three sections offers contrasting adaptations of each tragedy for comparative analysis. Alexa Alice Joubin is Professor of English, Womens, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Theatre, International Affairs, and East Asian Languages and Literatures at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where she co-founded and co-directs the Digital Humanities Institute.
