Description

Zephyr Service Station: This lot went through many owners during the 19th century, as per New Harmony Plat Maps, including Loyal in 1858, Wilsey in 1869, and David Randolph by 1880. There was a hotel on this lot during the mid-19th century and it remained until sometime before 1893 when it was converted to a series of attached dwellings. The housing complex was demolished some time before 1899 by which time the house is represented on the Sanborn Map. It was probably built by David Randolph. The large house was still marked on the 1943 Sanborn Fire Insurance Map however, it was demolished at some point when a Zephyr filling station was built on the property which was itself demolished during the Theater Barn Construction and Cooper House Move. This photo probably shows the foundations of the Randolph House.
